Side bearings and width
The white space on each side of a letter, which sets how text looks.
Where
- Inspector › Spacing
- Tool rail › Metrics (M)
Each glyph has a left side bearing (LSB), a right side bearing (RSB) and an advance width. Type them in the Inspector, or drag them with the Metrics tool.
Changing a side bearing moves the glyph's edge, not its drawing: the outline stays where it is and the advance grows or shrinks.
A common way to start: space n and o by hand, then base everything else on them, by linking or with auto-spacing.
