Kerning groups

Letters with the same side shape kern alike: kern O once, and C, G, Q follow.

Each glyph can belong to a group on its left side and on its right side. O, C, G, Q share a round left side, so put them in one left group, and a pair kerned with that group applies to all of them. Exported fonts store this as class kerning, which keeps them small.

Exception for this pair kerns a single pair differently from its groups.
